200K Service Cost

Post by WeeMagna »

Does anyone know what sort of price it is for a 200K service?

1998 TF magna 3.0 auto.

According to the book the only difference between a 200k and a normal service is the timing belt. The instructions seem simple enough. So I am tossing up whether to do it myself or get a shop to do it.

I found one web site that says it should be $500 to $700. But just the timing belt and water pump kit on eBay is almost $500.

I just like to have a rough idea before I go getting quotes.

Thanks for the help.

$500-800 labour, plus parts. Order parts from rockauto.com (Eclipse 3G 3.0L V6 for a 6G72) to save money.

Major service at 200k should include:
- Plugs
- Leads
- Water pump
- Timing belt w/ hyd tensioner

Thanks Life,

I have never done a timing belt before. But I am not to bad with a set of spanners and an FBH :)

I think I might give this a go myself.

I had a look at rockauto. They don't list a 3.0 eclipse but they do list the magna 3.0. It seems thou that they only stock oil seals for the magna.

What do you think of the belt - water pump kits on eBay? If I do go this alone, are there any sellers or brands I should steer clear of?

Cheers

if you get hold of the Gregory's no272 workshop manual it explains all the steps required. there is a special tool you need for setting the belt tension which makes the job a lot easier. follow the torque settings stated in the manual and take your time.

I am just about ready to buy the parts.

I have noticed that some eBay listings include a HYD TEN. I assume this means hydraulic tensioner. The Gregory's mentions a tensioner but no mention of hydraulic tensioner. Is what the Gregory's refers to as tensioner in fact the hydraulic tensioner?

The big question. Should this tensioner be replaced at the same time or is that just over kill?

Cheers.

yes it means hydraulic tensioner.
they are expensive on their own , most people wait till they leak before replacing them. the manual describes the checking procedure and the resetting procedure.
